TOPIC FOR REFLECTION

THE BIRTH OF JOHN THE BAPTIST IS VOCATION OF SALVATION

Vocation is from the Latin word "Vocare" which means to call.

No one is called without a mission.

When a patent called his or her child, it is for a mission, no matter how insignificant it may appear.

To be sent on an errand, a message is a mission. Once the message is delivered, one would say, mission accomplished because the message was delivered.

Invariably, all have been called in one form or another and has accomplished the mission by delivering the message to whom the message was meant.

Meanwhile, divine vocation is supernatural,  John the Baptist is among those whom God called from their mother's womb, just as Isaiah and Jeremiah were called the same way as John.

Still, each prophet called had a specific mission to accomplish, and John's mission was to prepare the way of the Lord Jesus, which He did perfectly.

In the preface of John the Baptist's mass at dawn, part of the preface read...

"And to make holy the flowing waters, he baptised the very author of baptism, and was privileged to bear Him supreme witness by the shedding of his blood"

In truth, John bore witness to Jesus and crowned it with his blood. Cross-check all the prophets in the bible, in accomplishing the mission of God, they sacrificed to their kast blood.

Therefore, we should know that vocation is a treasure from God, and whomsoever he called is given a specific mission to accomplish.

So, as a person called to work in the vineyard of God, have you discovered the purpose for which God called you?

Where you are posted is where God wants you to be and work, and the apostolate demand of that place is what God wants you to accomplish for Him.

It is on this note that I congratulate my dearly beloved Somascan brothers who will be ordained Deacons of the Roman Catholic Church today, may the good Lord who had started the good works in you bring them to perfect fulfilment.
