TOPIC FOR REFLECTION

THE SPIRITUALITY OF BREAD

My dear, wait a minute, have you ever asked yourself why Jesus makes use of bread as a symbol to reveal His real presence and not any other food items like rice, beans, indomie, spaghetti, yam, etc?

Why did he use bread?

Well, in my reflection, coupled with lots of research, I discovered that the only universal food which can always be found in every nook and cranny of the world is BREAD.

Bread is a universal common meal, hence Jesus use it as a symbol to reveal Himself to signify that He is universal.
Similarly, the symbolic shape of the host which the Catholic Church uses for consecration as the body of Christ is round, which also signifies that Christ who is the bread of life has no beginning or end and that He is universal.

Now, we may ask again, what is the generic importance of bread in the life of humanity that makes Jesus Symbolize it?
Bread is a meal that sustains one physically, and Jesus as the bread of life sustains a person spiritually.
Hence, Jesus uses bread as a symbol to reveal himself.

Therefore, Jesus who came down from Heaven, needed to sustain us on this spiritual journey to Heaven, because only He who came from Heaven knows the perfect way back to Heaven. Hence, He willingly accepted to suffer and died, and His mission was accomplished.

In the accomplishment of His mission, He teaches us that no one can come to Him (Jesus) unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him on the last day, just as God used Philip to raise the Eunuch from the slumber of his sin into a new life in Christ Jesus.

Jesus said further, no one has seen the Father except him who is from God; He has seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.

Therefore, in a nutshell, let's believe in the one who came down from Heaven, and gave us his body as bread to eat.
Remember that heaven is our goal.

Peace ✌️ be with you.
