ARCHANGEL & GUARDIAN ANGELS: ANY DIFFERENCE?

TOPIC FOR REFLECTION


 *ARCHANGEL AND GUARDIAN ANGEL: ANY DIFFERENCE?* 


The Church in her wisdom celebrated the feast of the archangel on the 29th of September, and today October 2nd is the memorial of guardian angels.


However, one might be curious to ask, what is the difference between the archangels and guardian angels?


There are not many differences between them, however, the church categorises them according to their functions.


Basically, the archangels are known as the head of the angels just as an archbishop is the head of the other bishops in his province.


Like Saint Gregory the Great who was the 64th pope of the Church in the 6th century said: "It is necessary to know that the word 'angel' designates their function: messenger. And those who announce the greatest events are called "archangels".


It is important to reiterate that the angels who carried out specific roles in the life of humanity are as follows:

1. Archangel Michael fought and won over the devil and his cohorts in heaven. Cf. Rev. 12: 7-9

2. Archangel Gabriel delivered the good news of Jesus coming to Mary. Cf. Luke 1: 26

3. Archangel Raphael leads Tobias to marry Sarah, and he commands him to use an ointment made from fish to heal Tobit his father's blindness. Cf. Tobit 12: 15-22.


Similarly, St. Paul in his first letter to the Thessalonians 4: 16 said: 

"There will be the shout of command, the archangel's voice, the sound of God's trumpet, and the Lord himself will come down from heaven. Those who have died believing in Christ will rise to life first"


However, the specific mission of the guardian angel is to serve, guide and protect you as a person, and while helping you along your spiritual path. Whereas the archangels work with everyone as we have seen above.


It is important to note that your guardian angel works exclusively with you, they have unconditional love for you and are always by your side.

Whereas, the archangel works inclusively


Gabby said in his online article that Angels protect you, guide you, and offer you great inner wisdom and healing messages.


More reason in today's responsorial psalm, says: For you the Lord has commanded his angels, to keep you in all your ways, which is the fulfilment of His promise in the first reading that His angel will go before you.

While in the Gospel, Jesus encourages us to welcome and humble ourselves like little children because in heaven their angels always behold the face of His Father who is in heaven.


My dear, the role of our guardian angel is to lead us to God, and we can only recognize its presence in our life's daily activities if and only if we live in docility and humility. Send your guardian angel message, it will deliver it for you and bring you a reply. Try it.

Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here,

ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.
