TOPIC FOR REFLECTION
FEAR WEAKENS FAITH
The beginning of failure in life is fear.
Fear destroys faith
It makes a person becomes vulnerable
It makes a person lose trust in him/herself and God.
The first thing fear does to a person is to lose confidence in oneself. Once, the self-confidence is gone, faith becomes weakened and many negative ideas filled the mind.
Hope you know that courage builds faith, while fear destroys it.
It is on this note that satan is not always happy that God loves us, and he will usually do everything within his capacity to make sure humanity does not receive that love from God. Our confidence in God disturbs him.
Therefore, its first strategy is to create fear in the heart and minds of the individual. He knows that once a person begins to become afraid, the courage in such a person is gone.
I will want you to recall those times you have entertained fear, were you able to accomplish what you were afraid of?
A similar situation is what the apostles face today in the Gospel. They were afraid they would all sink into the river as the wave increased, yet forgetting that the master of the universe was with them; they entertained the fear of not wanting to die.
Though, naturally, one would not blame them because no one will see death and will not be terrified, and secondly, they have not known very well yet, who Jesus was.
However, when they saw Jesus rebuking the wind and the sea, they marveled because such has never happened before. This help to build their trust in Jesus.
My dear the adverse effect of fear is to lose faith in God and to start living a reckless life. To lose faith in God is to build it in immoral sinful pleasure. Hence sin reigns all over the earth, and the practice of all sorts of evil practices, because the fear of God is gone and buried.
This is what Sodom and Gomorrah were engaged in, the sin of homosexual immorality and other vices, and God destroyed the city.
Yet, God saved His son Lot and his family. Lot was courageous, but his wife was afraid and disobeyed the Angel's instruction, she looked back and became a pillar of salt.
So, my dear, I know many things can create fear in us, but let us try to build our trust in God that He (God) who lives inside of us is greater than the gods who live in the world. Cf. 1 John 4: 4.
Therefore, before you entertained fear, think about its disadvantages and consequences.
Remember that Jesus who calmed the sea, will calm the difficult situations of your life.
Peace ✌️ be with you.
