TOPIC FOR REFLECTION

SHOULD GOD TREAT US THE WAY WE TREAT OTHERS?

In today's Gospel, Jesus teaches us some reciprocating equilibrium teachings which are embedded in fairness, justice, consideration, charity, and Love.

These teachings are reciprocating in the sense that, you should give or treat others as you would like to be treated. The golden rule. Cf. Matt. 7: 12

Hence, the reciprocating equilibrium teachings will allow Love to continue flowing and co-exist among the children of God.

Now, let's examine the teachings one after another.

Jesus said:

***Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.

We are encouraged to act like God.

To be merciful to one another as      God is merciful to us.

Invariably, if we are not merciful to one another, it's a message to God that we do not appropriate His merciful act on us.

×××Therefore, for us to enjoy the mercy of God, let us show mercy to one another.

***Judge not, and you will not be judged.

Before we pass judgment on others, we should put ourselves in the shoe of that person.

We should have an objective view of any situation before we conclude

An irrational judgment is a sign of spiritual immaturity.

Experience has shown that those who judge rashly, are often guilty of the same or similar crime they judge others on.

×××Therefore, for us not to be judged by God, let us not judge others. Remember, if God should mark our guilt, who will survive? Psalm 130: 3

***Condemn not, and you will not be condemned.

In simple language, Proud people are always fast and furiously eager to condemn others.

It is only an inhuman person that will condemn others.

Wait! Who is worthy among us to condemn others, except God?

Yet, God is not ready to condemn any of us. So, why are we always be willing to condemn others?

×××Therefore, I suggest we become considerate instead of condemning so that God can consider us in place of condemnation.

***Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

It means, we can be forgiven if we forgive, and there will be no forgiveness if we refuse to forgive.

Never say, over my dead body will I forgive a person

What if God says He will never forgive you reading this reflection, how will you feel?

×××Therefore, forgive for the following reasons:

1. For your psychological health, this will keep you happy always

2. For the sake of your salvation, saving your soul.

***Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back.”

          Jesus has concluded it all.

If you want joy, give joy
If you want peace, give peace
If you want love, give love

However, if you want pain, suffering,  sadness, etc, give to others,  and you will receive it back in hundred folds.

In short, by nature, you get in return what you give. Always remember that what goes around comes around.

In conclusion, I joined my voice with the prayer of forgiveness offered by prophet Daniel in today's first reading that God should continue to have compassion on us all.

Peace ✌️ be with you
