Weekday of Lent (A)

First Reading. Genesis 17: 3-9
Psalm. 105: 4-9 (R. 8a)
Gospel. John 8: 51-59

TOPIC FOR REFLECTION

JESUS SAID: BEFORE ABRAHAM WAS, I AM

The above statement was made by Jesus in today's Gospel.
Similarly, from the first reading, God made His covenant with Abraham.

God told Abraham "I  will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come forth from you. And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you."

From the immediate quote above, " THE EVERLASTING COVENANT TO BE GOD TO YOU AND YOUR DESCENDANTS AFTER YOU.

My dear, the Jews only argue with Jesus blindly because they never understood what they have read.
God said the everlasting covenant shall be God to Abraham and us, his descendants.
It's very clear, and as we all know that Jesus is the covenant of God, and He is God, so He, Jesus is God for both Abraham and us, His descendants.

More so, if we believe in the Trinitarian doctrine that Jesus is the Word of God, and as the Word of God, He has been with the Father before time began, and the creation of the world.

Similarly, in the creed we read, "and through Him (Jesus) all things were made.
The statement that read through Him all things were made is found in Genesis' account of creation. God made the universe by His Word saying, " Let there be" and it came to be.

So, the Word of God formed all things simply means Jesus, as the Word of God, formed all things.
Remember St. John said, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Cf. John 1: 1.

Therefore, Jesus as the Word of God made flesh did exist before Abraham was born. In fact, all that Abraham saw and made use of while he was alive was made Jesus as the Word of God.

Please, don't forget that all things were made through Him, Jesus the Word of God, and Abraham benefited from them all.
Similarly, the promise that "He shall be God over you and your descendants" which was said to Abraham in today's first reading simply means that the ever-existing Word of God, once He incarnates and takes human flesh, shall continue to be God over Him and us, His descendants.

St. Paul summarized it that the true descendants of Abraham are those who share in his faith in every age (Romans 4:16).

So, my dear, rejoice and be glad that we share in the faith of Abraham, and more reasons Jesus remains to be our God.

Peace ✌️ be with you.
